SCCVC Hairdressing Photo 2

I have two classes that I run a Year 11 (15-17 year olds) class and a Year 12 (16-18 year olds) class we try and blend the two classes as we find the more experienced students mentor the less experienced. When the students begin at the college we find suitable salons for them and they attend Work Placement, where if the student and employer are compatible the students begin a School Based Apprenticeship. This is where the student attends College, Work and TAFE where they acquire a Nationally Recognised Qualification at the completion of their Higher School Certificate (School leaving certificate).

  1. Hi Leanne!
What is required for the student, and the employer shall be assessed as compatible?

  2. Hi Kerstin, it is more about what type of hairdressing the student would like to do, for example magazine work, Fashion Week and then finding a suitable employer who specialises in this type of work. Other options would be suburban salons where the student is expected to cut and colour early on in the training eg shopping centre salon.

  3. Do you work with so-called structural drawings during training? We work with pivot-point and students should always draw up the cutting modes (example increased lengths or equal lengths) before they start to cut the hair.
